Description
Among the important components of street furniture in the urban context, bus stand is a functionally and visually prominent element. In this pretext the Pakistan Council of Architects & Town Planners (PCATP) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) organized a competition that was won by Architect Hanif Daud of ICON along with the other two winning entries.

Conceptually, the design theme is inspired by the historical context of Karachi where similar structures were an integral part of the urban fabric. Overall form of the bus stand is subtle reminiscent of by-gone era of British Colonial. However, the materials, construction techniques and modes of fabrication have been modified according to contemporary technology in a bid to economies the cost as well as render a modernistic appearance.
